Danger, Sleeping With the Lights On


Children who sleep with the lights on at high risk for leukemia. The scientists found that the body needs darkness to produce cancer-fighting chemicals. Even when the lights on the toilet, staying up late, traveling across time zones, street lamps can stop the production of melatonin substances.



The body needs the chemical to prevent DNA damage and the absence of melatonin, a substance that will stop the fatty acids into the tumor and preventing its growth.


Prof. Russle Reiter University of Texas who led the study, said "Once you are asleep and do not turn off the lights for one minute. Your brain immediately detects that the light is on all day and the production of melatonin decreases substance ".

The number of children with leukemia rose to double in the next 40 years. About 500 young people under 15 years of being diagnosed with this disease annually and about 100 people died.

A conference on children with leukemia was held in London said that people suffering from cancer due to prolonged use lights at night time sleep than those who never wear a light bedtime.

This suppresses the production of melatonin which normally happens between the hours of 9 pm s / d 8 o'clock. Previous research has shown that people who are most susceptible are shift workers who are at risk of developing breast cancer.

In fact, blind people are not susceptible to melatonin have a lower risk of cancer. So parents are advised to use colored light bulbs that dim red or yellow if the children afraid of the dark.
